What is the best salsa music for beginners?

Me and my partner are taking salsa(dancing) lessons but to master it we need to practice at home. But we don't have any salsa at home!

  1. Then make some!! all you need is like Tomatos and crap like that...JK JK JK sorry anyways.... Just go to www.playlist.com and you can search any music you want! TRY IT
  2. When I was trying to teach my girlfriend some salsa steps I realized that the most popular salsa songs have fast beats, lots of syncopation, arrangements with wind instruments, not to mention singing and a chorus. For a person who's new to salsa dancing, one of the toughest things to do is to mark the beat, which lies under all those layers of instruments, melody and singing. So, I recommend instrumental salsa songs in slower beats or even the Cuban "son". The son is a Cuban rhythm that you can dance using your salsa steps but they are typically slower. Of all places, I found two songs in iTunes meant for children that fit the bill for beginners, one's an instrumental salsa and the other an instrumental son. The versions with lyrics are meant to children how to multiply ;-). If you do a search on "Cantando y Multiplicando" in iTunes you'll find these and a few others in cha-cha, cumbia, calipso, etc. That will get you started. Have fun.
  3. You may want to practice to: 'Devorame otra vez'--Lalo Rodriguez, 'Lluvia'--Eddie Santiago, which are slow tempo songs. You could try dancing to 'Lloraras'--Oscar D'leon, or 'Carinito'--Puerto Rican Power, or 'Micaela'--Sonara Carruseles. These songs are a little more uptempo, not that fast.
